Q: What is a legal nurse consultant (LNC)?

A: A legal nurse consultant is a registered nurse, who uses medical and legal educational and professional backgrounds to assist attorneys in cases involving medical issues. The LNC is an educational resource and capable of reviewing medical records as a physician would do, but are capable of assisting in the legal research as a paralegal would assist the attorney.

LNC’s are held to the standards of both the medical and legal fields, which make them a crucial and very advantageous member of the legal team in medical cases. The tasks an LNC can perform are unique and can help a case develop quickly and more thoroughly.

LNC’s are less expensive than physicians and more knowledge able in the medical field than paralegals. When acquiring the services of an LNC the paralegal is capable of assisting the attorney in other avenues, as the LNC quickly deciphers the medical information and constructs a chronology/summary that is an aid for the entire legal team.

Q: What can a legal nurse consultant do for an attorney and the case?

A: Reveal Insight, LLC’s legal nurse consultant (LNC) utilizes years of clinical experience as a registered nurse to review medical documentation and records to help develop a detailed and chronology / narrative of the events leading up and including the incident in question. LNC’s use their unique perspective of the legal and medical fields to understand, interpret and educate other professionals. The LNC can also conduct client interviews, research medical/legal literature, identify appropriate expert witnesses and research and identify standards of care.

A: The LNC is available for discussing the services provided. Reveal Insight, LLC’s LNC can be contacted by phone (419.461.4934) or by email (linda@revealinsightllc.com), for discussion of your needs, as well as a fee schedule.

Q: How can Reveal Insight, LLC help if an attorney is debating the merit of case and would like a physician’s opinion?

A: This is a great opportunity to bring in Reveal Insight, LLC. The LNC will conduct the medical review at substantially lower cost to the attorney and the client, while delivering a professional and thorough product.  The LNC is educated from both a medical and legal standpoint and will use the knowledge gained, both in an educational setting and professional setting to aid the attorney in determining merit for the case.

Q: Why do attorneys need LNC’s after the merit of the case has been decided?

A: The LNC is capable of completing medical/legal literary research, records review and analysis, identify potential defendants, identifying possible expert witnesses, constructing chronologies, among a variety of other tasks.  The LNC will be more readily available to the attorney than a physician, and the LNC has more experience in the medical field than a paralegal.

The paralegal and the rest of the legal team will benefit from the knowledge the LNC and the resources the LNC can provide, for this case and the future cases. The LNC, as a member of your legal team, will allow the paralegal to focus more time on their specific duties, rather than trying to decipher the technical medical terminology of the medical field.

Q: Why subcontract to an independent LNC?

A: The law firm or attorney has little to no overheard cost associated with subcontracting to an independent LNC such as Reveal Insight, LLC.

Q: What if the final work product does not satisfy the attorney?

A: If the final work product does not satisfy the attorney, Reveal Insight, LLC will rework the work product with more specific specification per the attorney. Reveal Insight, LLC’s main objective is assist the attorney in the way the attorney specifies, and if the Reveal Insight, LLC has not achieved that objective, it is our responsibility to make sure that objective is met.
