The purpose of this service is to identify and define the appropriate patient care for the condition/issues that are the basis of the allegations.  This service will provide a copy of pertinent standards of care and a report identifying deviations / adherences, and how they relate to the alleged incident.

Sources for standards of care include

• State  and federal statutes/regulations
• Academic curriculum

• National nursing associations, including specialties

• Profession literature

• Institutional policies and procedures

• Regulatory agencies such as the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)

The legal nurse consultant utilizes her clinical knowledge and experience in varied work environments to identify pertinent standards of care for the case.
